Yep, I'm still here! This summer was very quiet, didn't do much traveling, and therefore there weren't too many things to blog about. I read a lot, purged my closets and apartment, did a few local things, and got caught up with a few friends I teach with that I normally don't get to see too much of during the school year. This morning when I signed on to ravelry, there was a message from Ted. It was short, and to the point: "Isn't it about time for a blog update?" I replied that I would get on it today, and here I am.
I did knit a couple of scarves this summer (I know, you'd think there'd be LOTS of knitting going on since school was out for 8 weeks, but no. But what I did do was to take some yarn from the stash and use it up, because I want to get MORE at Rhinebeck in a October. So, a couple of scarves fit the bill. It's the same damn pattern I used for my Rhinebeck scarf, just because I like the pattern, and I like scarves that look the same on both sides (technically, there IS a right and wrong side, but they're both so similar, it's hard to tell).
The first scarf was made from Bartlett's wool that I've had for a while, and the second from llama from Rhodie Hill Farm (They're gonna be at Rhinebeck this year. Look for them - nice, nice people with GREAT llama and alpaca yarn). I've not worked with llama before, and I really liked the way it felt in my hands and on the bamboo needles. I just finished knitting it tonight, and I'll be weaving in the ends a little later this evening.
The llama is on the top, and the wool underneath. The wool has been blocked, and at the time, the llama was still on the needles.
I did do a little bit with theatre this summer. I made props for a local production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged". It's a great three-man show where they essentially perform all of Shakespeare's plays in two hours. The props included several socks puppets (Hamlet's Parents) and a "severed head pie", made out of papier mache. That's just the tip of the iceberg, and it was a hoot-and-a-half! I'll hopefully get some pictures together to show you before the week is out.
That's it for now. Sorry to have been away so long, but it's just been so quiet, that it wasn't making for good blogging material. I hope you all had a terrific summer!
